Awesome race report as always, makes the reader feel like he/she was there! I did like the not so subtle subliminal(sp) shout out to LaSportiva and the cross lites, its like when you see a coke can in a movie! ;)

  2. The Crosslites were indeed awesome. I saw what some people were wearing and how they were struggling. I was very happy to be getting as good of traction as I was with them.

  3. Derrick, congrats on your race. Looks like a fun race.

War story: I had a 50k trail race on Saturday, brought my Crosslites, only to realize I forgot the insoles at home! Ran with my road shoes but I missed them. Had wet feet that wouldn't dry.

    Cheers.

  4. Love the additional pics. Too bad we couldn't find a shot of the bad mud sections.

  5. Awesome job, Derrick! You made running 50 miles in the muck look easy! Hopefully you can make it back to the race again and I can show you how really super the trails are when they're dry. Chris Reynolds

  6. Well Done - Really Well Done. You are fit as a fiddle and add that to a smartly run race and the results speak for themselves. Must feel good in many ways to have this one under your belt. Now sit back and enjoy those well earned Beers.

  7. I hate looking at pictures and reading about other peoples races. I get so jealous because I want to be in on the action. Anyways congrats and I love the pics.

  8. Derrick,

Excellent race! and report... That was the worst condition I have seen that area in three years and I figured it to be about an hour or so slower over the course of 50-miles.

I knew you were back there somewhere and when my iliotibial band started acting up slowing me down considerably it was another punch in the stomach to see you blow by me!

I hope you have a great summer and I look forward to meeting you again when I am in a better mood (i.e. not injured!) and wish you continued success in running.

Take care and nice meeting you!

  9. Hey Yassine, it was nice meeting you too. Definitely beautiful trails there for sure, just wished there had been a little less mud. I kind of figured that the mud probably made for an average of at least 1min per mile difference, some places more, some less. Always fun. My ITB is acting up a bit after the race, which I think the mud certainly was an issue in contributing to as well...or maybe just sympathy pains.
    Hope you are recovering well.
    Derrick
